Winter Must Have’s

In case you have not noticed… it is cold! For that very reason this is the time of year when I struggle with fashion. There are a lot of layers required to stay warm when it is 4 degrees out. In my opinion, there are a couple of trends this season that can help you to stay warm while looking good.

Adding a stylish jacket is a perfect way to up your game during the winter season. Fake fur is making a come back while leather is always a classic look. Although you wouldn’t be able to wear these as your only jacket of the evening, they will keep you warm inside and add an extra flare to your outfit.

Turtlenecks are also gaining some steam this winter season. This is the perfect item to wear with layered necklaces or a sweater. They definitely keep you warm! I am speaking from experience.

Adding a fun accessory is another way to spice up your winter wardrobe. Collar clips are one fixture that I have really been enjoying. These two photos not only show how different color clips can be, but also the different ways you can wear them. Add the accessory to your standard color shirt or on a sweater.

New Years Eve

New Year’s Eve marks the time of resolutions and new beginnings. Celebrations range from a night out on the town to a night in with friends. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you ring in the new year with style! My forever resolution is to combine comfort with looking good. To incorporate this into my NYE look I decided to give a classic fashion trend my own twist.

A black dress is a timeless base for a New Year’s outfit. This neutral color allows accessories and makeup to do the talking. To accompany this black dress I choose this wonderful jacket, which I found at a thrift store. It is the perfect color to liven up the outfit (not to mention it will keep you warm!). In addition, I have chosen sparkly eye shadow and comfortable maroon shoes. This way I look good and feel good.

Holiday Outfits

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Lights, snow, family and parties are just a few of the things to be excited about. One of the important questions to answer is what to wear. Jewel toned velvets have been making a comeback this fall season. Continue the trend into the holiday season and incorporate velvet into your holiday outfit.

I choose a long red velvet skirt to be the centerpiece of the outfit. To keep with the Christmas color theme I added silver heals and green ornament earrings. I choose a shirt with a lower back to balance out the long skirt and sleeves.

If you don’t have festive earrings try making some like I did! You can pick up earring backs and small round ornaments at a craft store. Thread the ornament through the earring back and wrap to ensure it lasts the whole evening.

Baseball Hats

Baseball hats are moving from workout gear to fashion accessory. Many starlets are wearing baseball hats with heals for a night out of the town. While I would not recommend high heals and hats there are plenty of other ways to incoporate this accessory.

One can go the casual route with harem pants, short boots, and a baggy sweater. An ensemble that looks effortless and put together at the same time. The other is to dress up the hat a bit more with jeans, leather coat or zip up jacket, and boots. Both ways allow the wearer to work a baseball hat into an everyday look.

Yellow and Dusty Pink

Dusty pink and bright yellow are one of the many trends sweeping the fall runway. This is not a color combination I would typically gravitate towards, even in the warmer seasons. In order to challenge myself I decided to give it a try. Paired above is a yellow long sleeve with a turtleneck sleeveless dress. Share your thoughts on this outfit in the comments below!

Mixing Patterns

Mixing patterns can take time to master. Before working up to plaids with polka dots try to start with the basics. One example of a great beginner outfit is a striped top or bottom paired with a large floral pattern. Stripes are a classic pattern and this large floral pattern is spaced out enough so the two do not create a cluttered look.

Runway Makeup

Runway makeup is amazingly beautiful. How the makeup is applied brings the outfit to another level and contributes to the message the designer is presenting to the audience. Most of the time this type of makeup stays on the runway and magazines. Below are some examples of how this makeup can be translated into everyday fashion.

Many times the runway make up is applied to more than just the eyelid. Brightly colored eyeliner is a perfect way to control the application of the color. The eyeliner can be used to create designs, such as a small cateye, that will help to embody the runway feel without leaving your eyelid.

Gold is always a fun color to play with! This particular color needs to be applied in the right way to ensure that it doesn’t steal the show. Applying the color and using black eyeliner as an accompaniment will balance out the bright sparkles.

This pink color is absolutely beautiful and one that isn’t used that often. Pink can be a harder color to incorporate to everyday where. Try to use a bright pink but applying it sparingly to your eye.
